The Cost of No Change

If you are currently using a generic accounting system, such as QuickBooks or PeachTree, the prospect of changing or upgrading to an industry-specific construction management application like ComputerEase can seem daunting. Making this change is a big decision and it is tempting to do nothing even though you are outgrowing your current system. You may be thinking...if I just hold out a little longer I'll have more time later to concentrate on this even if delaying the change is costing me now.

But, it is more difficult to change or upgrade your system when things are not working properly.

Have you considered:

  • how much it is costing you to "patch your current system"
  • the time you spend "fixing" your system that could be better spent
  • that each day you delay in making the decision to upgrade is another day that your money is being "lost" in the inadequacies of your current system

Examples where money is lost using a generalized accounting system:

  • Change orders that are never processed or approved and fall through the "cracks"
  • Retainage that is not billed for and never collected
  • Prevailing wages paid to an employee for an entire pay period when only part of the employee's time was spent on prevailing wage work
  • Equipment rates that are lower than the actual cost of the equipment
  • Jobs going over budget
  • Overbilling by vendors
  • Employees spending time implementing complex work arounds to deliver information critical to decision making
  • Paying employees to track down lost paperwork

The sooner you invest in a complete construction management software package, the sooner you will see an improvement to the bottom line. ComputerEase is that problem solving software.

"Allow them to do a larger volume with existing staff"

Sometimes, uh, although not often but sometimes, you'll have a savings in labor in the office. But as a rule, what we've always found is that a good, construction accounting package, uh, like ComputerEase, won't necessarily let anybody lay someone off but it will allow them to do a larger volume with the existing staff they have before they have to add additional staff. And that, course, can be a savings of anywhere from probably $30 to $60,000 a year uh, alone.

With ComputerEase we've had a lot of clients tell us that the return on investment has been uh, just a matter of months because of uh, be, uh, the ability of ComputerEase to track the Worker's Comp, for example. Uh, the Worker's Compensation laws say that you have to pay for the Worker's Comp, but it's at different rates. And, for example, a roofer, when they have somebody up on a roof walk around on slippery boards, their Worker's Comp rate is very high. And if they can track, which ComputerEase does, how uh, much time they spend on the roof, versus how much time they spend on the ground uhm, it really has a great impact, and that helps with a great return on investment as well.
